Assuming that the war with the Seljuk Sultanate was well in hand the Emperor had changed the leader of the troops from Bryennios to some member of his court. This had led to two great disasters at Melitene and Comanagene. Stinging from these defeats Emperor reconstituted his forces with Bryennios at the helm to take back Melitene, which was done. Now the marshal has just fought an won a hard battle, against a larger force, at Arca. With Bryennios back in the fight we cannot lose!
